Why you might need breast revision surgery

Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to replace breast implants every 10 years as long as they are in good condition, soft, and properly positioned. However, you may still want to make changes to your original procedure, or you may have concerns about your implants’ structure, or you may have faced any problem with your breast augmentation such as capsular contracture. Here at Harley Street Aesthetics, I have extensive experience in performing breast augmentations and breast revision surgery. I can help women restore their ideal breast size, shape, and appearance.
Below are some common reasons as to why women choose to undergo breast revision surgery:
Dissatisfaction with breast size
Women's bodies and aesthetic goals often change throughout their lives, and as a result, their desired breast size may also change. A breast revision can provide a new size that better suits you, whether you want to be smaller or larger. I have extensive experience in exchanging implants to align with each patient's evolving goals.
Ruptured implants
If your implants have ruptured, I highly recommend undergoing a breast revision surgery. Patients with a deflated saline implant will typically see a significant decrease in size, while partial deflation may result in a smaller, but not fully deflated, breast. Silicone implant failures, on the other hand, may not be visible or palpable, and must be confirmed through an MRI or ultrasound. Breast revision surgery will involve your plastic surgeon replacing the existing implant to restore symmetry and beauty.

Correction of Visible Skin Rippling
In some cases, certain implants can cause small waves along the breast's surface. If this is an issue for you, your surgeon may suggest switching to silicone implants, which greatly reduce the likelihood of skin rippling. For those experiencing visible rippling with silicone implants, fat transfer around the implants is often the best treatment option available to achieve the desired texture.
Adjustment of Breast Implant Position
Women with implants placed too high or low may benefit from a breast revision surgery. Your plastic surgeon can reposition the implants to restore a natural-looking and attractive appearance. In some cases, changing the type and/or size of the implants may also be necessary for optimal results.
Capsular Contracture
Capsular contracture is a complication of breast augmentation where abnormal scar tissue forms around the implant, causing the implant to become firm and misshapen. In advanced cases, scar tissue needs to be removed and the implant replaced, while in more complicated and recurrent cases, special materials such as the acellular dermal matrix product Strattice may be required.
