A little good news for PIP sufferers

At last, a little good news for some UK PIP sufferers! It seems that women who bought their PIP implants by credit card with Lloyds will receive full compensation and lawyers are working with 23 other banks to do the same.

I feel it’s a little unfair to place all the blame on the shoulders of the surgeons who used PIP implants, as they thought they were purchasing implants from a bona fide French company – apparently they even had safety testing results to support their product…However, that aside, I do believe surgeons and facilities that used PIP implants should help keep costs as low as possible for those seeking PIP implant removal.

PIP, which stands for Poly Implant Prothèse, was a French company. The company director was a salesman and before selling breast implants, he sold wine and sausages! His company showed none of the regard for health and safety that all good practitioners and industries should have.  He reportedly admitted to using fake business data to fool health inspectors and essentially deceive plastic surgeons.

If you still have a PIP implant and are worried about it, I suggest you seek advice from your initial surgeon or contact your GP. You can also read the information given by the MHRA.

For impartial advice you can also contact the British Association of Aesthetic and Plastic Surgeons or the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority to ask them if a brand has passed their quality tests and are safe.

If you are interested in the whole industrial process and want to see how implants are made, Nagor, the only breast implant manufacturer in the UK, offers to give tours of their factory. They have facilities in Cumbernault, Scotland, and in Ashby De La Zouche, central England.
