New research finds a third of British people hate their stomachs

According to some new research published by CosMedocs which surveyed a panel of members of the British public, one third of the population considers their stomachs to be the least favourite feature of their bodies. The tummy is closely followed by love handles and bingo wings, and 4 in 10 people surveyed said that if money was no issue they'd turn to cosmetic surgery to improve their looks.

Moving down the list, it appears that there are many aspects of their bodies that the British are unhappy with, with 19% saying they didn't like with their noses. Noses are followed by breasts/pectorals (18%), teeth (16%) and legs (15%), and even buttocks appeared on the list along with hands and feet. In contrast, the research also revealed some of the features that people love about their bodies with 56% of the people surveyed saying they loved their eyes, when 29% liked their hair and 21% their teeth.

Additional figures from the private healthcare search engine WhatClinic.com showed that over the last 12 months, enquiries for nose jobs (rhinoplasty) increased by 117%, while arm lifts, pectoral implants and buttock lifts increased by 564%, 163% and 108% respectively.

Aesthetic surgery procedures for the tummy

Interestingly, even though the research revealed that many people dislike certain aspects of their appearance, 85% of the people surveyed said they were not planning any form of cosmetic surgery. Nevertheless, if you’re one of the 32% who are unhappy with their stomach and if you are considering plastic surgery to alter the appearance of your tummy, there are a couple of aesthetic procedures you can look into.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a safe cosmetic procedure which helps remove unwanted fat from around the stomach - and also on hips, buttocks and thighs. As one of the most frequently performed aesthetic procedures, liposuction is designed to contour the body but it cannot be considered as a substitute for dieting and exercising. The majority of patients who request liposuction are usually advised to try these activities before undergoing surgery. I perform liposuction on patients who have previously tried these methods but were unable to shift large and stubborn accumulations of fat. In order to enjoy as long as possible the effects of the liposuction it is important to review the way you eat and keep fit. It should be noted that liposuction only removes fat pockets and doesn't actually tone up the abdominal area – only a tummy tuck can help tighten up a stomach. Here at Harley St Aesthetics, I have developed a signature liposuction procedure called e-lipo that utilises all the best liposuction practises currently known, but avoids the common side effects of liposuction such as excessive bruising and irregular contours.

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) procedure removes excess fatty tissue from around the lower abdominal region while improving the appearance of skin folds. The procedure, of which there are several types, is commonly performed on women who have had children and have been left with stretch marks or a ‘hernia’ as a result of a tear in the fascia (the tissue that surrounds muscle). Abdominoplasty is also perfect for people who have lost a large amount of weight which has left them with excess skin that no amount of exercise can remove. It should be said that during the procedure, every effort will be made to remove stretch marks but this cannot be guaranteed.
